Major Speech #1 Wrap-Up

1) I think my speech went pretty well, but it was definitely not perfect. I forgot to address a specific aspect of one of my points, specifically about myself as a consumer. I meant to say that I would be likely to buy Mr. Clean brand supplies in the future, but only if I needed cleaning supplies, not just for fun. This would have helped add to my effectiveness section of my speech and helped the audience more clearly understand my point. However, leaving out this bit of information did not detract from my speech and I was still able to make my point. I am especially proud of myself for feeling confident enough to not need notecards or a paper and relying solely on the powerpoint and my own knowledge. I think that this was very effective in getting my point across. Finally, I was able to slow down my speech's pace enough to become more understandable, helping make my speech a success.

2) In my next speech, I hope to fix my body language and my confidence to make my next speech even better. While I felt confident in my speaking, my body may not have come across that way to the audience given my stance (legs crossed in front of each other, swaying forward and backward). In order to have a truly persuasive speech, I should work on matching my body language to my language and show my confidence physically. Also I want to use my space better.

3) Some strategies I can use to help me achieve these new goals are practicing my speech more before the final performance and getting feedback from others. I was only able to run through my speech about twice between my rough draft and final speech, and never before the rough draft. In order to help my confidence and body language, I should try practicing more and in front of a mirror to give myself the best judgment I can. I could also try asking others to watch my speech and give me feedback more individually to help with my confidence. A final strategy I could use could be writing out the main points of my speech several times to help with my memorization of the structure and format of the speech.
