Commercial for Speech

Mr. Clean 2017 Super Bowl Commercial

The company is tailoring this commercial to football fans because it was being aired during the Super Bowl, so with that in mind, the company chose to break from the stress and trauma of the game with its funny nature. Therefore, its goal is to be memorable through humor. It also includes many sexual references, adding to the humor while also tailoring to the audience. It appeals to the audience's sense of logos by telling a story start to finish, sense of ethos by setting the commercial in a standard middle class home, sense of pathos by implying sex and love, and sense of mythos by pretending that the behavior is naughty. The commercial poses a typical problem, spilling food on the stove, and provides their solution to fix it. Because of their brand name, "Mr. Clean," they are also able to successfully make it memorable because it is simple and has a commonly recognizable logo prevalent throughout the ad. The declaration at the end ("you gotta love a man who cleans") ties both into the brand name, Mr. Clean, but also the advertisement's sexual nature with the search for the perfect mate. This helps to make the ad more memorable. The advertisement also times itself well to the music, having Mr. Clean and Sarah dance to a song, pleasing the audience with pathos. The song only plays when Mr. Clean is around or being mentioned and the style of the song actually increases the release of dopamine in the brain.
