Major Writing Assignment Sources and Explanations

Source 1
This source was co-written by Rebecca Neel, the psychologist that I will be interviewing. It is a research paper including lots of background information on the social concept of study (protection of men by their female partners around ovulating women), three related studies regarding this topic in IMRAD format, a general discussion of the background and the studies as a whole, and a conclusion to wrap it all up. Based on the jargon used and the detail put into the paper, I would classify this sources as academic writing. I will analyze at least one of the studies for writing style, specifically focusing on the structure, language and references through out the paper.

This research paper was published in a scientific journal called Group Processes & Intergroup Relations and was also co-written by Rebecca Neel. It is another type of academic writing, but this time is available to a larger audience due to its publication. It includes brief descriptions of three individual, yet related, studies. I will analyze the studies, paying particular attention to noticing the audience and purpose, given the publication of this paper in a scientific journal.

Only two studies were analyzed in this paper, and fewer specific details were supplied with the background details regarding the subject matter. It was again co-written by Rebecca Neel and also again published in a scientific journal called Sage on behalf of the Association for Psychological Science. This academic writing serves to question stereotypes held by many people. In analyzing this text, I will be able to better understand the author (as Dr. Neel was the primary writer on this paper) and the topic, as it is one that is prevalent in today's society.
